NEWS/ International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day! IWD celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women and marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

This year’s theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’. We believe Earth science is for everyone, and will continue to work to make sure access to the geosciences is equitable for all. We call on our community to support this by challenging barriers to participation and inequity across the subject.

Today, we also recognise and thank all our female volunteers, committee members and Council trustees – who support our ability to serve science, profession and society.

The President’s late January letter to the Fellowship set out the situation regarding the Society’s occupancy at Burlington House, and gave notice of a virtual meeting to enable the Fellowship to present their views to Council representatives and the Executive.

This meeting will be held on 1 April 2021 from 9.30am-10.30am, and joining instructions will be made available shortly.

In the meantime, I would like to thank Fellows for their interest and views expressed to date.

Kind regards,

Richard Hughes, Executive Secretary

Almost 1,600 votes from our 11,515 Fellows have already been received. Thank you to all those who have voted.

Council plays a critical role in providing strategy, oversight and decision making within the Society and represents the views of the Fellowship. Your vote is important.

A reminder email will be sent on 11 March to those who have not voted. If you have any difficulties in voting please contact Christina Marron.

Kind regards,

Richard Hughes, Executive Secretary
